Precision Farming Pays
Precision Farming continue to revolutionize agriculture, as we know it. At New Century FS we strive to meet all the precision Ag needs of our customers by becoming their one stop for everything from Variable Rate fertilizer recommendations, to Auto Steer systems in their tractors and combines, to precision input management with Ag Leader equipment.
Through increased yields, savings on the cost of fertilizer, or both, farmers in our trade area are learning how well precision ag can pay. You can count on us to handle all precision farming systems in-house, including the following services:
- Grid soil sampling and geo-referenced grid maps. We grid map 35,000 acres annually, adding to our existing database of over 300,000 grid-mapped acres.
- Crop scouting and GPS crop scouting. We scout 25,000 + acres annually in our intensive 10 week crop scouting program throughout the summer growing season. Our crop specialists begin contracting acres with crop producers in January and continue through spring. Field scouting starts in May and lasts until August. Each field is scouted once a week, and a complete written report is provided to the crop producer. The reports have diagrams and descriptions of what was discovered in each field. New Century FS’s crop scouting program includes weed and insect identification, plant tissue tests, residue counts, compaction tests, population counts, emergence status, root ratings, injury and disease diagnosis, and crop protection performance.
- VRT application of P, K, and lime. Variable-applied phosphorus, potash, and lime starts with grid soil tests that are geo-referenced. A map is then computer generated for the field, and the data is loaded into a computer on a VRT application machine. When the fertilizer is applied, it is placed exactly where it’s needed. Since no waste occurs, you can save thousands of dollars in crop inputs. If a particular field needs more fertilizer, the response from the yield increase helps you reap additional profits.
New Century FS precision ag software programs:
- SST Summit/Stratus is used for our grid mapping and crop scouting data collection and management as part of our GreenPlan Solutions program.
- Ag Leader SMS software is used for planting, spraying, & harvest data management. It is also used as part of our Ag Leader equipment service plan to trouble shoot issues that occurred during one of the operations listed above.
