| Building on a Solid Foundation Dependable service. Quality products. Fair prices. These are the benefits farmers wanted when they established New Century's predecessors in 1931. Today we're still focused on giving farmers a greater say in their destiny beyond the farm gate. Farm Bureau helped local Farm Bureau members create New Century many years ago. The Cooperative Extension Service also helped start most of the FS cooperatives we have today, including our local operation. Working with GROWMARK New Centry is proud to be part of the regional cooperative GROWMARK, Inc. GROWMARK and other regional co-ops have ownership interest in inter-regional co-ops to supply raw materials, manufacturing, and services needed by New Century and other FS companies. Local farmers benefit from this partnership by ensuring a dependable supply of products at a fair price. Expanding our services New Century FS has made many transitions in recent years. Here's a timeline to show how we've grown: 1992 The cooperative was known as Poweshiek-Jasper FS. We had 28 employees and five locations, including Grinnell, Brooklyn, Baxter, Newton, and Montezuma. Our sales volume reached $8 million. 1995 A joint management agreement was arranged between Poweshiek-Jasper FS and Iowa River FS. Iowa River FS had 32 employees and eight locations, including Toledo, Melbourne, Albion, Gladbrook, Traer, Garwin, State Center, and Dunbar. Poweshiek-Jasper FS reported sales of $8.7 million, while Iowa River FS had sales of $10.6 million. 1996 On Sept. 1, Poweshiek-Jasper FS merged with Iowa River FS to form New Century FS. The newly formed coop employed 60 employees, 12 locations, and had $24.5 million in sales. 1998 New Century FS purchased petroleum and LP assets in Story County from Central Iowa Farm Service. 2001 In January, New Century FS merged with Farm Services, Inc. of Vinton, IA. Farm Services included 25 employees, sales of $15.5 million, and locations at Vinton, Van Horne, Garrison, La Porte City, and Millersburg.
New Century FS serves farmers in nine counties, including Benton, Black Hawk, Iowa, Jasper, Marshall, Polk, Poweshiek, Story, and Tama. New Century has 97 full-time employees and an additional 50 seasonal employees. Locations include:
2005 New Century sold the Garrison elevator. Sold "Comfort Pro Plumbing and Heating" 2006 New Century became a subsidiary of GROWMARK, Inc.
